The One Thing This Founder Wants Powerful Women to Stop Doing | Inc.com

On this week’s episode of Woman Inc., I sat down with serial entrepreneur Amy Errett, the founder behind the exploding omnichannel hair-dye company, Madison Reed.

Errett has over 30 years of business and operating expertise as a four-time entrepreneur, and a venture capitalist. Prior to founding Madison Reed, Errett worked as a general partner at Maveron, a leading venture capital firm co-founded by former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz. Errett was also featured on Fast Company’s first ever Queer 50 list of LGBTQ women and nonbinary innovators in business and tech in 2020.

As always in our Woman Inc. interviews, I am most interested in uncovering the woman behind the company and her secrets to success. Madison Reed expanded from 12 hair-dye salon bars in March 2020 to over 50 locations in 2022.

During our conversation, I asked Errett how running her fourth company, has been different from building her first–and specifically how she’s changed. Her answer reminded me of a golden rule in entrepreneurship: building a business requires the building of self. Amy’s vision in scaling Madison Reed is rooted in mission and purpose as its foundation.

Make sure to tune in to this behind the scenes chat and subscribe to Woman Inc. so that you never miss an episode.
